2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class     During 2 years, starting from November 2006, a group of 30 Mercedes-Benz engineers and mechanics performed the TEST OF ENDURANCE for a new compact version of the Mercedes-Benz family of SUVs – GLK Class. They drove it around the planet more than 1.5 million miles over impossible terrain of the Arctic Circle and the African desert! It had to take hills of up to 70% degree under the temperatures ranging from -11° F to +158° F. Only after the successful completion of the test, Mercedes-Benz placed it in production and then introduced the entirely new 2010 GLK Class model line-up.

    Power:
Very efficient 3.5 liter V6 with 268 Horsepower can propel you from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.5 seconds. Continually variable timing on both the intake and exhaust valves coupled with a dual-stage intake manifold helps this power plant deliver 100% of its peak torque from 2,400–5,000 rpm, making certain an instantaneous response to every throttle touch.

    Transmission:
7-Speed Automatic Transmission provides the perfect gear ratio in practically every driving condition. It’s also equipped with Touch-Shift, which gives you an ability to shift gears manually without using a clutch for a more refine control of the gears, resulting in smoother cruising and immediate response for acceleration and passing, even improved fuel efficiency on the freeway.

    Drivetrain:
GLK350 has a standard Rear Wheel Drive. GLK350 4Matic comes with permanent 4 wheel drive system. If you live in area with the weather conditions like Los Angeles, BenzOnly.com recommends choosing a Rear Wheel Drive, because it has a little better performance, cost a little less, saves a little more gas and can saves you some money on the insurance and maintenance. However if your weather conditions are similar to Chicago or you are used to harsh terrain, then BenzOnly.com recommends to take the full advantage of the GLK 4 Wheel Drive system. Here is why:

    4Matic:
Provides optimum traction, comes with 4 wheels Electronic Traction System (4-ETS), which lets you drive a car, even when only one wheel out of four (!) still has a grip with the road. Each wheel has its own sensor to monitor wheels traction independently. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS will brake those wheels individually and redistribute a delivery of power to the wheel or wheels with traction, which will keep you driving without the need for a risky NASCAR maneuver!

    Agility Control:
Suspension provides individual and automatic control of each wheel for the best possible stability and splendid comfort. This system adjusts dampers based on road conditions and the driver’s style of driving. Basically, it can read both even without your knowledge!

    Advanced Braking System:
Mercedes-Benz invented Antilock Braking System (ABS) back in 1978, which became the standard for the most carmakers. GLK has a next generation electronic 4 channel ABS, which provides invaluable almost fade-free stopping control in any emergency. It features big brake discs and adds Brake Drying that helps sustain the maximum stopping power in severe weather, also Hill Start Assist that does not let rolling back from a stop on inclines.

    Safety:
Electronic Stability Program (ESP) constantly monitors vehicle movements, correcting wheel spin, under-steer and over-steer. Active Head Restraints reduce the risk of the whiplash type neck injuries by moving up and forward – if a preset rear impact threshold is exceeded. Six airbags deploy eight different ways, including the full length Window Curtain Airbags. If the tire pressure drops below where it needs to be, you’ll see and hear both audio and visual warnings. But most amazing is a legendary Mercedes-Benz body structure, which consist of about 50% High Strength – Low Alloy and 20% Ultra High Strength Low Alloy Steel. Advanced front and rear crumple zones deform to absorb the energy of an impact in the pre-programmed way - to channel the forces of an impact away and around the driver and passengers!

    Interior:
Despite its Compact SUV status, you’ll be amazed at how much space and versatility this car has. It can hold easily 54 cu ft of everything! Multiple configurations of the folding seats prepare you for any occasion.

    Toys:
Lots of them! Here are some: Rear Seat Entertainment System, iPod Integration, Voice Control, 600 Watt Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 surround-sound system with Dolby Digital 5.1, Multimedia Package with COMAND hard drive based Navigation on a 7" color-LCD screen, Rear View Camera, Zagat Survey restaurant suggestions, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Bluetooth interface, Panorama Sunroof, Dual-zone automatic climate control, Bi-Xenon headlamps with corner-illuminating front lamps, Power tailgate etc… - just watch your budget!

    Bottom line:
GLK class starts amazingly under $35,000, which makes it the second least expensive Mercedes-Benz after the C-Class. The value like Safety, Comfort, Performance and the future resale value makes it the most VALUABLE bet – comparing to any other car or SUV within the price range!
